If you have been under a rock and have not heard, allow me to inform you that on August 21st Carbondale is in the path of totality for a Total Solar Eclipse. Observers will see (appx.) 2m 37s of total darkness!
Please note you must use eclipse glasses to safely view the parial phases leading up to the eclipse. We will give away 100 pair on Sunday August 6th.
I viewed the Carbondale eclipse website (www.CarbondaleEclipse.com) and invite you to do the same.
Some of the info I gleaned:
• The August 21, 2017 eclipse will travel 2,500 miles across the United States of America in an estimated 70 mile wide path, beginning its journey in Oregon, crossing 12 states, and ending at the Atlantic Ocean off the shore of South Carolina.
NASA will be streaming the eclipse live from Carbondale, one of the designated sweet spots within the path of totality.
• The last coast-to-coast eclipse occurred 99 years ago in 1918.
• We will host a picnic on The Ridge for any who would like to view the eclipse from this vantage point. (Bring your own picnic)

Join us for Summer Time Sunday Nights #OnTheRidge2017. The complete Sunday night schedule is found inside, “The Witness”. These activities are informal get togethers designed with fellowship and fun in mind. I hope you feel motivated to invite and bring folks with you.
I want to specifically mention the “Show ‘n’ Tell ‘n’ Watermelon Feast” on August 13th.
1) We will have watermelon. The watermelon is provided.
2) For “Show n Tell” bring something that you enjoy doing, making, and/or learning about, and tell us about it. You may set up a display, have a story to tell, or maybe even show us first hand.
Give us a call at the Church office and let us know what you will be doing and what you will need for your display area. If you would rather not bring anything for Show ‘n’ Tell, no worries come and enjoy looking at what others are doing.
I am looking forward to seeing the many talents of the people of The Ridge Church on display.
This just In: We’ve added “Dips and such” to the August 20th Movie Night. Bring dips, chips, crackers, and/or veggies to share

“Thanks so very much for helping my friend with her air conditioning. I am telling my friends and family of the kindness you and Walnut Street Baptist have shown. (Sorry, I just can’t call it Ridge, kinda like calling the Cardinals the Rams). A special thanks to __________ for delivery and installation!
In our initial conversation I got to recall my days at Walnut Street and when I mentioned Bob Hailey I remembered what a pure soul he was with such a kind and giving heart. I worked with him in the SIU Football Office from 1975 to 1982 and he was the reason I joined Walnut Street back then. I moved to the east coast in 1983 and just recently came back to Southern Illinois.
When you came through for my friend I felt a real warmth and gratitude. Then, a few days later I put two and two together. One cannot say Coach Hailey and “help” in the same sentence and not get action.Bob Hailey’s legacy is alive and well! This is not necessarily why you came through for my friend, but it makes a great story!
My friend is heading for surgery, we hope, in the next few days. She wants to visit, okay, I’ll say it, The Ridge , and thank you personally when she is back on her feet.”
